Criminal Justice

Associate in Applied Science (082)

This program prepares students for careers in correctional institutions such as jails, juvenile training schools and prisons. As an applied science program it places heavy emphasis on career-related courses.

Work and Employment

This applied science program is designed to prepare students to work in correctional institutions. Younger students who wish to rise in the ranks are advised to follow a transfer program and earn a bachelor’s degree because higher education has become increasingly more important. The federal government predicts an increase in demand for correctional officers throughout the next ten years.

Special Considerations

Corrections students should cultivate their communication skills. Much of effective corrections work is based on the communication skills of the corrections officers. Students should also be aware of the strength and agility requirements required of applicants by corrections agencies in Illinois. The College offers a wide range of physical education courses and a super circuit fitness center.
